Do estheticians need to be licensed?

Licensing for estheticians had recently been deregulated by the government. This means anyone can just take a quick program or apprentice and start practicing without taking a government exam. This is a scary time for the beauty industry, as clients have no real assurance that their technician is fully trained. There is, however, a voluntary licensing exam run by the Cosmetology Industry Association of BC. Voluntary, by means that it is not mandatory to be a member, but is an added bonus for the client. There are many fully qualified technicians who choose not to become members, but as a client, make sure you ask a lot of questions and feel free to not proceed unless they are answered to your satisfaction.

Why do I need to fill out a consultation card?

Consultation cards are filled out before we commence your service. They are both for your benefit and ours. They help us to be familiar with your medical conditions and history, as well as any medications you may be taking so we can serve you better. They let us know your general health and habits to help us to tailor your service to your individual needs and let you know which, if any services are contraindicated. For these reasons, we ask that you fill out your consultation cards with as much accuracy as possible.

What makes professional products better than a department/drug store product?

There are many differences between a professional product line and a drug store line. Fo' starters, department and drug store products spend much of their money on advertising and marketing. Professional products spend less money on advertising and more on research and quality ingredients for their products. This also allows professional product lines to add more of those quality ingredients into their products so the consumer gets quicker results. Another difference is that professional products generally come with professional advise from your trained esthetician, who first analyses your skin.

Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions

What are Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions?

Semi-permanent eyelash extensions are individual lashes (synthetic or authentic), that are applied to each of your natural lashes (not your skin), and adhered with an eyelash adhesive specifically formulated for use around the eye area. A properly trained lash stylist will place the extensions one-to-one on to your eyelashes so that when each lash sheds from your eye, it will not pull others off with it or cause any discomfort. This technique will not only make your eyelash extensions look and feel natural (without lumps and clumps), but it will also protect the health of your natural lashes.

How long do they last?

These eyelash extensions can last indefinitely with proper care and regular touch ups or "fills" performed every 2-3 weeks. Like the hair on your scalp, each hair grows in its own lash cycle, which is typically about 60 days. On average, humans shed between 1 and 5 natural eyelashes each day. Luckily, a replacement eyelash quickly grows in its place, thus the need for regular fills.

How do I care for my Eyelash Extensions?

Proper care and maintenance is essential for the longevity and health of both your eyelash extensions and your natural lashes.

During the first 24-48 hours following your procedure, you must avoid moisture, steam, excessive heat, and cosmetic ingredients so that the adhesive can dry thoroughly and form a strong, durable bond.

After the first 24-48 hours, you should avoid the following:

- Excessive exposure to heat, steam, and friction

- Use of any oil-based products around your eye and lash area

- Use of waterproof cosmetics around or on the lashes (mascara, eyeliner)

- Excessive use of mascara or other coating agents

- Use of mechanical eyelash curlers

- Picking or pulling of your lashes, and excessively rubbing your eyes

Following your Full Set, you will be provided with an aftercare kit with instructions on how to properly cleanse your lash line. Thorough cleansing of the lash line is imperative in keeping your skin and eyes healthy and free of make up build up, debris, oil build up, and infection. These conditions are not caused by having eyelash extensions, but by improper care.

Can I use mascara on my Eyelash Extensions?

The beauty of Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions is you won't need to wear mascara. If you must wear mascara, however, only water soluble mascara can be worn very sparingly, and only on the tips of your lashes. Constant use of mascara may shorten the life-span of your lashes. WATERPROOF OR OIL-BASED MASCARA IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE AS IT WILL DISSOLVE THE BOND WITH THE LASHES.

How do I prepare for my procedure?

Please arrive to your lash appointments with clean, dry lashes, free of make-up and oils. Do not curl or perm your lashes within 24 hours prior to your appointment. Some clients find it irritating to have contact lenses on during the lash application. Please either arrive without contact lenses on, or bring a case and solution to store them during your appointment, and glasses for after if necessary. Because you need to avoid moisture, steam and heat for the first 24-48 hours after your full set of fill, it is recommended to shower prior to your procedure.

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics

What makes Youngblood superior to other mineral cosmetic lines?

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics began in a medical context, to be used by patients with skin traumatized by acne, rosacea, and harsh procedures, such as laser treatments, chemical treatments, or cosmetic surgery. Developed with leading doctors, our products contain the healthiest ingredients possible.

When comparing mineral cosmetic lines, always check for synthetic ingredients such as alcohol, artificial fragrance, mineral oil, talc, or petroleum - you won't find these in Youngblood products.

You'll see some similarity in ingredients among different mineral cosmetic companies, but the proportions will not be the same. You'll also read about companies using different, "superior" milling processes. We're confident that when you compare, you'll find Youngblood ingredients and processes are of the very highest quality on the market.

You'll also notice that some other mineral cosmetics may have an undesirable "glittery" look. That's because their milling process or ingredient combination leaves a rough finish - it can even itch or cause breakouts. Youngblood, however, glides on silky smooth, and has a more refined "glow," rather than a sparkly "glitter."

Kiss Me Mascara

Is it waterproof?

No. It's better! Waterproof mascaras are so tenacious that they can often be difficult to remove, requiring considerable time, effort and the application of a harsh make-up remover to the delicate skin around the eyes. Ophthalmologists agree that some women should avoid wearing a daily mascara that requires a make-up remover to come off. Kiss Me mascara provides better hold than most waterproof mascaras yet only requires plenty of warm water and gentle pressure to slide off the lashes at the end of the day.

What if I cry?

Crying generally does not produce enough moisture to loosen Kiss Me mascara's hold to the lashes. If enough moisture does accumulate, it would still need to be combined with pressure to remove the mascara. Now, if you cry (or sweat) and rub your eyes a few of the mascara's little tubes may slide off (as opposed to running across your face). The tubes are easily wiped away as you would a grain of sand on your face.

Can I swim with it on?

Many women do but at that level of saturation the mascara will slide off if some pressure is applied. It will not, however, run across your face like many conventional mascaras.

I tear a lot and I have oily skin around my eyes. Will Kiss Me mascara still stay on?

In general, the small amounts of moisture secreted by the skin or tear ducts are not enough to neutralize Kiss Me mascara's hold to the lashes. If you don't rub your eyes while they are moist the mascara should remain intact. If you do rub your eyes while the lashes are moist, a few of the tiny tubes Kiss Me mascara has formed around the lashes may slide off, rather than smear like ordinary mascaras.

Does it thicken and lengthen the lashes?

Yes. Since Kiss Me forms a tube around each lash it amplifies both the lash's volume and length for a radiant natural look. Many women also apply a few coats (before the original coat sets) to add some additional volume as well as a few additional strokes to the very tip of the lashes to add some extension and achieve the look they are seeking.

What is the brush like?

Kiss Me mascara's high-definition lash brush, with its curved form and tapered tip, is designed to coat the lashes evenly and allow you to reach the corner lashes effectively.

Should I apply Kiss Me mascara before or after I curl my lashes?

Immediately after.

How can it be water-resistant yet come off with water and pressure?

Neither water nor friction alone is enough to remove Kiss Me mascara. It is only when the two are combined that the mascara will slide off. High concentrations of warm water neutralize the mascara's adhesion to the lashes but it still takes the gentle pressure to remove the tubes that the mascara has formed. Showering will also be enough to remove the mascara effectively due to the water pressure.

Can I use a make-up remover to take it off?

No. Do not use a make-up remover to try to remove Kiss Me mascara. The easiest and most effective way to remove Kiss Me mascara is by combining warm water and pressure.

Return to top of page.

Will I damage or pull out my lashes when I am removing Kiss Me mascara?

No. Once the mascara is saturated with water it comes off with very little effort. Remember, during the removal of Kiss Me mascara you will actually see the tiny tubes that were formed slide off into your hand.

Return to top of page.

Has it been safety tested?

Yes. Kiss Me mascara has been clinically tested and received a "non-irritating" classification (the mildest possible classification) making it ideal for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Return to top of page.

Is it Hypoallergenic or fragrance-free?

Kiss Me mascara has not been hypoallergenically tested and it does have a slight fragrance.

Has it been tested on animals?

We are proud to say that Kiss Me mascara has not been tested on animals.

Return to top of page.

What's in it that makes it so different?

Kiss Me mascara's main ingredient is an acrylate copolymer that helps it bind to the lash as opposed to trying to paint or dye it like conventional mascaras.

Return to top of page.

How long does one bottle last?

It depends on the frequency of use, but it is recommended to replace your mascara every three months.

Return to top of page.

Isn't that expensive for a mascara?

The retail price of Kiss Me mascara is comparable with other premium mascaras on the market yet its performance sets it apart. Kiss Me mascara also avoids the inconvenience and expense associated with an eye make-up remover.

Where is it made?
